When I heard of the split of one of America’s heaviest political couples, Maria and Arnold, I was reminded of the statement by Nancy Witcher Astor, Britain’s first female MP: “I married beneath me. All women do.”
This may be mostly true, but what was always obvious to me is now as clear as the shine on an oiled muscle. You, Maria, married way, way below you.
The man who has been quoted as saying that marrying a Kennedy is the secret to his success, must have forgotten those Catholic vows he took all those years ago. Or did they teach him in bodybuilding school that if you look like a neanderthal, then all the women in your household are yours for the taking?
