Sexy Lessons from 80′s Music

Or, Everything You Need to Know About Pleasing a Woman was sung in 1980-81

Sometimes great advice comes in the oddest of ways. Great advice on sex comes in even stranger forms. But when the wisdom comes in the form of pop music, one should be more than a bit skeptical. Taking your love and sex advice from MTV is not to be advised, but every now and then, even that rule must be broken.

Remember way back in the early 80′s, when style was comic without meaning to be; before You Tube made music videos readily accessible, even before your music collection was digital. There were a few great pop hits that extolled fundamental and brilliant advice on female sexuality.

With the benefit of this hindsight, we can hone in on some advanced sex education and listen to thoughts that may be all you ever need to know about pleasing a woman.

Betty Davis Eyes (1981)

Kim Carnes sex advice

This is a song about seduction. It is about the elements that make up a flirt and the same little things that maintain the charge in a sexual relationship. Of course, there are the eyes that keep seeking out something more (“all the boys think she’s a spy”) because they want to discover their partner’s soul. The eyes should never lose their force because there must always be more to share.

The song’s heroine is teasing and uneasing. These aren’t negative actions, because they keep moving a lover away from their comfort zone and it is comfort and regulation that kills the passion.

The lover with Bette Davis eyes is not doing all the work in this scene or in the relationship; she is being playful and challenging her lover. She needs to be indulged and treated like the sexy woman that she is.

Slow Hand (1981)

Slow Hand, sexy advice Forget the quickie – that’s a male fantasy. This song tells a man to slow down and take his time, in fact, to take all night. It may not always be the most practical request, but it is well advised to stop thinking of “the heated rush” of orgasm as the part that you are charging into. It is the planning, the seduction, the anticipation and the process that make lovemaking great.

It may sound like a soppy love song, but this is actually quite a mammoth move for the trio of gals, who are being very specific about how they like their sex: use lots of gentle touch, enjoy the whole body and, for goodness’ sake, hang around when its over (the lady may want some more of the slow hand).

Finally, listen to her sentiments when she says “we got the time”. What else, exactly, is more important than making time for this?

Do That to Me One More Time (1980)

Do that to me one more timeThese aren’t the most sophisticated lyrics but they are brilliant in all their obviousness. Written by a woman (the Tennille part of the duo), they beg for more of what feels just right.

This sublimely passionate song is simply advising you to take notice of what she loves and to give her more of the same. That includes what she loves to hear and what she loves to feel.

This doesn’t mean that sex will become boring and repetitive, because the context and the build up may be as spectacularly diverse as possible, but when you know exactly how it is that she likes to be touched and made love to, stick to the style and the pace. If you’re not sure, ask her, or better yet, have her show you.

And whats the good news for the obedient lover? As the lady says, she’ll never get enough of you.
