Physical reasons for ED include: diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, neurological disorders, injuries to the pelvic area, surgery to the spine or lower abdomen and use of medications.
These conditions affect the body in one (or sometimes more) of the following very specific ways:
- Blocking of the arteries and thereby lowering of blood supply to the penis
- Leaking of the veins in the penis so that blood does not stay congested for a firm erection
- Reduction in the nerve sensation of the penis, so that the feeling received by the penis is reduced and then the orders to start the blood flow inwards are not properly given
- Hormone imbalance, which tends to reduce the sex drive
